Muzzle Mass is perfect for appetite stimulation, gaining weight, weight management, building muscle, aiding recovery and is loved by fussy eaters too!

For every 10kg of body weight feed 1 scoop, which is approximately 40g and contains 16g of fat. There’s a scoop inside!

To serve, mix with an equal amount of hot water into a paste and add to your dog’s usual food. If you feedyour dog more than one meal a day then split the dose equally to aid with digestion.

For weight gain and building muscle: Feed daily. If no weight gain is observed after two weeks double thequantity for an additional two weeks. For building muscle your dog must be kept active.

For appetite stimulation, aiding recovery, weight management and general conditioning: Typically three times per week or as required.

Supplements are an aid, not a cure. If you are using Muzzle Mass for aiding recovery or another medical condition then please use in conjunction with other treatments, such as physiotherapy.

It is advisable to introduce supplements gradually. Fat is needed for energy, to produce essential fatty acids and to carry fat-soluble vitamins through digestion. The amount of fat needed in a diet depends on your dog’s age, activity level and any specific needs such as pregnancy. Our recommendations are not explicitly tailored to your dog so it is reasonable to consult with a veterinarian or canine nutritionist before using.

Muzzle Mass is not recommended for dogs with pancreatitis.

Why Supplement My Dog’s Food With a Weight Gainer?

Maintaining the right body condition in dogs is about more than just the number on the scales. While much attention is rightly placed on preventing obesity, unintentional weight loss and muscle wastage are equally important — and often overlooked — concerns, particularly as dogs age or recover from illness, injury or surgery.

A carefully formulated weight gainer, such as Muzzle Mass, can play an important role in supporting healthy weight, lean muscle mass and overall resilience, when used alongside a balanced diet and appropriate veterinary guidance.

Muscle wastage with age: a hidden issue in dogs

As dogs get older, many experience a gradual loss of muscle mass. This process, often referred to in veterinary medicine as age-related muscle atrophy, can occur even when a dog appears to be a “healthy weight”.

Muscle loss matters because muscle:

• Supports joints and stabilises movement
• Helps absorb impact during walking, running and jumping#
• Contributes to balance, coordination and confidence
• Plays a key role in mobility and independence

Veterinary consensus recognises that loss of lean muscle mass can negatively affect quality of life, increasing stiffness, weakness and the risk of injury. Ageing dogs may also experience reduced appetite or changes in digestion, making it harder to maintain muscle through diet alone.

Supplementing food with a weight gainer can help provide additional nutritional support to slow or counteract muscle loss, particularly in senior dogs or those struggling to maintain condition.

Injury prevention through better condition

Strong muscles are a dog’s first line of defence against injury. Dogs with reduced muscle tone are more vulnerable to:

• Ligament strains
• Muscle tears
• Joint instability
• Soft tissue injuries

This is especially relevant for active, working or sporting dogs, but it also applies to older dogs whose muscles may no longer adequately support their joints.

Veterinary and orthopaedic research consistently shows that well-conditioned muscles reduce stress on joints and connective tissues, helping to lower injury risk. Supporting muscle mass through nutrition is therefore an important preventative strategy, particularly during periods when exercise may be limited or inconsistent.

Supporting recovery after illness

Illness places significant stress on a dog’s body. Reduced appetite, inflammation and inactivity can lead to rapid loss of weight and muscle, even during short periods of ill health.

Veterinary guidance highlights that rebuilding lost muscle takes longer than losing it, particularly in older dogs. Simply returning to a normal feeding routine may not provide enough nutritional density to restore condition efficiently.

Supplementing meals with a weight gainer during recovery can help to:

• Replace lost calories and nutrients
• Support gradual rebuilding of muscle
• Encourage appetite in dogs that are slow to eat
• Reduce prolonged weakness and fatigue

The goal is not rapid weight gain, but steady, controlled improvement in condition, which supports a smoother return to normal activity.

Post-surgery nutrition and muscle preservation

Surgery — particularly orthopaedic surgery — often involves periods of restricted movement. While rest is essential for healing, it can also result in temporary muscle loss due to reduced activity.

Veterinary recommendations increasingly emphasise the importance of post-operative nutrition in maintaining muscle mass and supporting recovery. Dogs that lose too much condition during recovery may take longer to regain strength and confidence once movement is reintroduced.

A weight gainer supplement can be beneficial during this phase by:

• Providing extra nutritional density without increasing meal size
• Supporting muscle maintenance while activity is limited
• Helping dogs regain condition safely during rehabilitation

This makes supplementation particularly relevant following procedures where muscle strength plays a key role in joint stability and long-term outcomes.

Appetite challenges and selective eating

Many dogs that would benefit most from additional nutritional support also struggle with reduced appetite or selective eating. This is common in senior dogs, dogs recovering from illness, and dogs experiencing stress or routine changes.

From a veterinary perspective, consistent intake is critical. Supplements designed to mix easily with food — and that are naturally palatable — can help ensure dogs receive essential nutrients even when appetite is inconsistent.

Weight vs condition: an important distinction

Responsible weight gain is not about creating excess body fat. Veterinary professionals increasingly assess dogs using body condition and muscle condition scoring, rather than weight alone.

A dog can be the “correct” weight but still lack sufficient muscle mass, particularly as they age. Weight gainer supplements are therefore best viewed as condition support tools, helping to maintain strength, muscle and resilience rather than simply increasing body weight.

When is a weight gainer appropriate?

Supplementing a dog’s food with a weight gainer may be appropriate for dogs that:

• Are ageing and losing muscle mass
• Are underweight or struggle to maintain condition
• Are recovering from illness or surgery
• Have high physical or working demands
• Experience reduced appetite

As with any dietary change, owners should consult a veterinary professional if their dog has underlying medical conditions.

Why Muzzle Mass?

Muzzle Mass has been developed with these challenges in mind. Its simple, natural formulation is designed to support gradual, healthy weight and muscle maintenance, without unnecessary fillers or artificial additives.

Used appropriately, Muzzle Mass can form part of a proactive approach to long-term wellbeing, helping dogs stay strong, mobile and comfortable through adulthood and into their senior years.

Maintaining condition is not about reacting when problems arise — it’s about supporting your dog’s body before weakness, injury or decline takes hold.
